I'm Avanna Rolfe, daughter of John Rolfe and Pocahontas. I'm a shy person, and it's hard for me to let people in. I'm not one to try to stand out. Blending in has always worked for me, and will always work for me.

Home is Wherever I’m With You- Self-Para

Overhead, Avanna heard her flight being called. She was dreading every moment of it, she really was. She was anxious about seeing her parents, about leaving everyone she met here, about being away from those who kept her grounded. After the initial shock of the news of going home, Ava began to look forward to going back to Naturica. She missed her home, her father, and her favorite reading place. Her time had Walter Prep. had been enjoyable, but she knew that it was time for her to go back and continue on with her life. She would never forget anything or anyone on Earth, but her heart was ready to go back to her life.

Ava stood up and walked over to the plane. She watched as Dean Hastings frantically took a head count. She had never met the woman, but by the looks of her now, she could tell that the Dean was frazzled.  She felt the woman pat the top of her head and assign her a number before she boarded the plane. She saw only familiar faces in the crowd, but avoided eye-contact. She knew her eyes were read from crying all morning and night. It’s not as if she was crying from saddness, either. Yes, she would miss people, but she was closer to home with every passing hour, and her heart was full of happiness. She couldn’t wait to land on Disney, get off the plane, and hug her father as tightly as possible. As much as she would miss everyone here, nothing could beat the love she had for her father.

Sitting in her seat on the plane, Avanna automatically pulled out one of her favorite books and put her headphones in her ears. As rude as it looked, Ava didn’t know if she could handle anymore goodbyes, especially not after the one she had with Austin. Avanna hated saying goodbyes, and she was always successful in pushing people away before she ever had to, but Austin had proved her wrong. He had been the only one to stick around long enough to get to know her. Toreallyget to know her. Their relationship had been a struggle from the very beginning, but to her, the struggle was worth it. She knew that she would never meet anyone else like Austin again, and to her that was a good thing.

Looking up from her book, Ava looked out the window of the plane and took a deep breath. She could feel Disney rapidly approaching. With every passing cloud, her emotion changed. It went from happy to sad to extatic. Now, she was just nervous. She began to drum her fingers on her legs in anticipation of the landing. Avanna hated heights and flying, but this time was an exception. She was so excited to go home that she didn’t even care. She sat back in her seat and crossed her legs multiple times.

Then, it happened.

She felt the plane touch down on the runway under her feet. As soon as she felt the plane stop and was given the OK to get up, she stood up quickly and bumped her head. She began to rub the back of her head as she made her way off the plane. She kept her eyes low and her head down, curious as to who she would be seeing as soon as she left the plane.

When the bright lights of the outside hit her, the first person she saw was her father, with a giant grin on his face. She couldn’t help but smile widely at him and run into his arms. She hugged him as tight as she could, and she felt him hug her tightly. It felt great to be with her father again. “I missed you” he said into her ear. She felt a tear slip down her face from happiness. Before she could reply, she saw her mother emerge from behind her father. She was with Ariana, hugging her and smiling at her widely. She let go of her father and stepped away from him for a moment. She approached her mother slowly and cautiously before taking her off guard and embracing her.

“Hi mom” she sniffled. She didn’t realize how much she missed her mother until she felt Pocahontas’ arms tighten around her. “I missed you” her mother replied.

Ava looked at her sister for a moment, watching as she averted her gaze. She let go of her mother for a moment and walked up to her sister, looking her in the eyes. “Ari, I’m sorry for everything. I never wanted to hurt you, ever. But, I’m in love with him, and I can’t change that. I don’twantto change that. I’m sorry if that hurts you, but I deserve to be happy too. Just know that you’re my sister, and I’ll always love you. I know you don’t really care at this point, but it’s true” she paused for a second, looking away for a split second, long enough to see Austin spot her. “Austin apologizes too. We never wanted to hurt you”.

Just as she got that out, she felt herself being lifted into the air by Austin Goldsworthy. He kissed her for a long minute before walking away from her without a word. She rose her hand to her lips, a look of shock on her face. She turned back to her mother and father, who looked just as shocked as she felt.

“Avanna,” her mother said slowly, “who was that boy that just kissed you?” Ava looked back at her mother for a second, then looked over at Austin and his father. The look on his face was one of cockiness and hurt. She looked at her family and held up one finger, signaling for them to give her a moment. Without thinking, she walked over to Austin and his father, stood on her toes and took Austin’s face in her hands. She looked in his eyes briefly before planting a kiss on his lips. She continued to kiss him and she lowered herself. After the kiss ended, she looked into his eyes and said, “I love you. I will always love you. You’re perfect to me. You’reperfect” she glanced up at his father before looking back at him. “Don’t letanyonetell you any different. I love you” she said one last time before giving him one last long kiss.

Without another word, she turned on her heel and walked back over to her family. She looked at her mother with a wide grin on her face and said “That, mom, is Austin Goldsworthy. He’s the biggest asshole I’ve ever met, but I’m head-over-heels in love with him”. She couldn’t help but smile at this last part before taking her mother’s hand and smiling at her father. “Let’s go home now”.
